Landsberg where’s rich folks eating

Folsom Prison Blues, 1951 von Johnny Cash geschrieben, während seiner Zeit bei der US Air Force in Landsberg am Lech, wo er den Dokumentations-Film “Inside the Walls of Folsom Prison” sah. Häftlinge und Züge sind zwei Hauptmotive von Countrysongs – aber auch der jüngeren Geschichte von Landsbergs Umgebung mit 14 Kaufering Konzentrationslagern.

Johhny Cash wrote his famous Folsom Prison song 1951 while he was serving in Landsberg / Lech US Air Force base. Maybe inspired by the wide spread concentration camp system with 14 camps next to Landsberg he putted it this way: “I sat with my pen in my hand, trying to think up the worst reason a person could have for killing another person, and that’s what came to mind.”

Zum Fest der Purim gibt es natürlich jede Menge Lieder, mit denen sich endlos TV-Sendungen oder Parties für Kinder füllen lassen. Die Lektion die man bereits als Kind dabei lernen kann, ist wohl, dass kein Mächtiger oder Wichtiger in der Welt von Kindern späterer Generationen als dumm entlarvt und verlacht werden kann und wird. Darin steckt natürlich auch ein Fingerzeig für heutige Mächtige und Wichtige, Höflinge und Vasallen und wenn sie sich von Kinderfingern beeindrucken lassen, werden Achbubitschatscha und Co. auch ihr Verhalten ändern, alles Böse unterlassen und ebenfalls ein fröhliches Chag Ha-Putin, äh … Purim feiern. Gewiss.

Noch was? Man kann 180 Tage lang seine zusammengeklauten Vorzüge ausstellen und sich mit den 500 engsten Verbündeten und Freunden eine weitere Woche lang auf Kosten der Allgemeinheit den Bauch vollschlagen, Musik und Witze hören, lachen und schunkeln, usw. … doch wenn dann zum krönenden Abschluss  die Kirsche von der Sahnetorte fällt, bleibt eben das als letzter Zapfenstreich in Erinnerung. So ist das Publikum nun mal.

Yes, there are many Purim songs, enough for many TV programs or children parties. Every kid may learn from it that all mighty and very important people in the world may be mocked by children in future generations, since there stupidity and vanity will be unmasked. There of course also is a pointer for today’s VIPs and their courtiers, minions and toadies.   

Another message derives from Purim: You may boast of your stolen riches and exhibits from all over the world 180 days in a row and you may furthermore sumptuously regale and host your 500 best and most important friends, partners and allies another week. All impressions will fade away if the queen won’t dance or another little mischief spoils the party. All just will remember the failure and probably laugh at your frustration. That’s the way people are and – considering how stupid it is – they are right. So maybe it is better drawing lots. Lots of.
