The old synagogue of Nuremberg

The synagogue at Hans-Sachs-Platz in Nuremberg, inaugurated in 1874 was demolished in 1938, already in August, 3 months before the so called “Kristallnacht”, because chief Nazi Julius Streicher said the synaggoue does not fit to the beautiful German city scenery of Nuremberg. However the synagogue was one of the most prominent motives of Nuremberg pre-war postcards as well as one of the most depicted synagogues in Europe.
