Consultation on the Protection of Kriegshaber Jewish Cemetery

The Obermayer German-Jewish History Awards are given annually on January 27th, the German Holocaust Memorial Day, which is the anniversary date of the liberation of Auschwitz Concentration Camp in 1945 “to individuals who have made outstanding voluntary contributions toward preserving and recording the Jewish history, heritage, culture and/or remnants of local German communities”.

Arthur Obermayer

The day after Arthur Obermayer, founder of the Obermayer Foundation and descendant of the famous Obermayer banking family once based in Kriegshaber and Augsburg, once again visited the old home of his paternal forbears. On this occasion Mr. Obermayer meet with Mr. Alexander Mazo. The Head of the Jewish Community of Augsburg, Dr. Henry Brandt the Rabbi of the Community and us from the JHVA to consider ways and means to uphold the maintenance of the historical Jewish Cemetery of Kriegshaber and to work against the ongoing destruction. The following day Arthur Obermayer visited together with our members once again the cemetery he visited the first time in 1964. Here many of his ancestors and family were buried.
